AMR Clark County celebrates 50th anniversary of CPR, offers free CPR classes | Community Spirit
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
VANCOUVER, Wash. -- Last year marked the 50th anniversary of modern CPR. This year, American Medical Response Clark County is celebrating the 50th anniversary of CPR by focusing on the importance of bystander CPR and by providing free hands-only CPR classes to the public.
According to the American Heart Association (AHA), most adults with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest who receive bystander CPR with compressions only (hands-only CPR) appear to have similar outcomes when compared to those who receive conventional CPR (compressions along with rescue breathing).
Why learn CPR? Each day in the United States more than 650 adults and children suffer sudden cardiac arrest. Survival depends on getting CPR immediately from someone nearby and within the first four to six minutes. Unfortunately, only about one third of people who have cardiac arrest at home or in the public gets that help. Note: About eighty percent of all cardiac arrests occur at home.
"With Hands-Only CPR it’s easy to help someone in cardiac arrest," says Doug Boyce, EMS Training Officer for AMR Clark County, "If you see someone collapse call 9-1-1. If they do not respond [and show no signs of life], push hard and fast in the center of their chest."
FREE CPR class!
AMR Clark County, in partnership with Flores Fitness will be offering free Hands-Only CPR classes each month at two locations. Participants will learn: layperson Hands-Only Adult and Child CPR, care for choking victims and 9-1-1 emergency considerations. Class length is approximately 45 minutes.
